New original oil on canvas

I sometimes paint still lives for practice. it is always good to paint from life regularly. Still life is an easy option. This is an original oil painting on linen canvas: a still life with a tambura, ( musical instrument from India), a colorful fruit bowl, oranges and grapefruits, a tapestry and a lace dolly. The style is realistic. This painting is framed in an ornate gold wood frame. The original painting is available.

New print available - Narada Instructs Srila Vyasadeva

This is a very special painting composed very carefully:
Classical painting with a very specific secret geometry using the golden section. For this reason, this static scene where two ascetics are sitting facing each other, becomes an attractive and mysterious image.
The story goes this way: When Vyasadeva finished writing the Vedas he was not satisfied. Narada Muni came and instructed him to write Srimad Bhagavatam, the missing part of the vedas. Vyasadeva was a great devotee, and a detached monist, whose mind was transcendental to mundane activities. However, he was feeling incomplete after writing the Vedas. His Guru, Narada Muni instructed him to describe the Almighty Lord's activities which will mitigate the miseries of the masses. Classical painting with a very specific secret geometry using the golden section. For this reason, this static scene where two ascetics are sitting facing each other, becomes an attractive and mysterious image.

New Oil Painting on Canvas - A classical Style

This artwork was painted in a very classical style, with twenty layers of glazing, as the old masters used to do. If I had to dedicated this artwork to anyone, I would dedicate it to Titian, who advised his students to paint with at least 30 layers of glaze.
This was commissioned by a Hindhu art collector. This painting is very classical in the Hindhu tradition.
I love painting in this classical realism style and rather than use photographs I use my imagination. It is possible to do this after many many years of practice.

Climbing Roses in La Treille Courtyard

Climbing Roses in La Treille Courtyard

This canvas was painted in Provence, in one of those small villages, in a courtyard called "La Treille". La Treille became famous as the place where writer Marcel Pagnol spent his summer holidays during his childhood—at the Bastide Neuve, where he is buried in the cemetery there. It is a very romantic place full of old stones and flowers.
In this painting, two rose bushes have climbed towards each other forming a sort of arch. The style is impressionist, the colors are soothing. The composition is a bunch of intricate squares. In this composition, the eyes goes directly in the middle of the picture. The composition is formed of sections. And the roses are forming an arch leading your eyes into the sides of the picture.

Roses in a garden

Roses in a garden

Roses are cascading from bushes in a luxuriant garden. There are white roses, red roses and pink roses. The picture is painted in an impressionist style reminiscent of Monet's style. This artwork was painted in California in a beautiful rose garden.
For this painting I created 3 sketches before I started on the canvas.
You can see images for those stages here: (copy and paste):

Details are showing the brush work. First I started with a very impressionistic broad style and then layer by layer, I brought the details out.

Portrait of a young Indian man, oil painting, portrait, figures painting, by Dominique Amendola

December 27th, 2013

This is a portrait executed from life in a few hours. This young man is a Pujari priest wearing the traditional cloth for doing his worship, shirts not being allowed for that.
